32 <br />33 Police and Fire provide safety and emergency service, Public Works sweep the parade route, Parks and <br />34 Recreation provide on -going event support including liaison to the organizing committee, administrative <br />35 assistance, and logistical support. <br />36 STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />37 Staff recommends the City Council recognize three valuable components of the Roseville Rose Parade. <br />38 1. Roseville Area High School Student Nick Gawreluk, winner of the student button design <br />39 contest. This year, the button committee worked with Roseville Area High School teacher, <br />40 Brian Hoag to encourage students to submit designs portraying their interpretation of the theme <br />41 "Summer Delights ". Nick's design was selected for its depiction of family, its bight colors and <br />42 playful design. <br />43 2. The Roseville Rose Parade organizing committee for their tireless efforts to provide the <br />44 community with a fun and festive event. <br />45 a. Committee Chairs Include; <br />46 i. Leslie Berry — Parade Committee Chair <br />47 ii. Gale Pederson — Parade Finance Chair <br />48 iii. Lorraine Hansen — Marching Bands <br />49 iv. Dianne Lang — Unit Participants <br />50 v. Rich Armstrong and Tom Jensen — Operations <br />51 3. Roseville community support for their assistance in bringing this event to all corners of the <br />52 community through promotions and cable broadcasts. <br />53 a. Roseville Visitors Association — Julie Larson <br />54 b. CTV — Tim Domke and John Rusterholz <br />55 REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION <br />56 Motion to: <br />57 1. Recognize the 2009 Rosefest Button Designer, Nick Gawreluk, Roseville Area High School Student <br />58 and officially begin the summer season in Roseville by kicking -off the Rosefest Button Sales. <br />59 2. Recognize and thank the 2009 Rose Parade Committee Chairs and Committee Members for their <br />60 dedication and hard work in make the Roseville Rose Parade one of the premiere community <br />61 parades in the Twin City area. <br />62 3.
