CHAIR'S
REPORT
PREPARED ON
JANUARY `I 0, 20 `I `I
HUMAN RIGHTS
COMMISSION
MEETING
OF
JANUARY `I 8, 20 `I `I
Background: The reason the January Commission meeting was postponed a week
is so that we could have a full complement of commissioners present when we
discussed our Strategic Plan for 2012. Since this plan serves as a framework for
the Commissions work this year, I thought it was important enough to delay our
meeting so that Commissioners Brisbois and Thao could be present.
January Meeting Items: Our meeting agenda incorporates suggestions from
Commissioner McKenzie and Youth Commissioner Siliciano. I also consulted with
the members of the Operations Committee, Singleton and Doneen, in its
preparation.
From my perspective agenda item #7 (Strategic Plan and Commission Initiatives
for 2012) is important enough to take up a significant amount of meeting time. If
we do not finish this item this meeting we may need to meet in February. So
please allow for up to two hours for our January meeting.
The items on the draft Strategic Plan which are underlined and in blue are
changes I am recommending. Though some of these changes are simply
reorganizing sections, there are some substantive changes recommended. Please
do not hesitate, however, to add your own changes, including additions or
deletions, at our January meeting.
On the draft Strategic Plan those items not in blue have already been approved by
the Commission over the past two years.
The Strategic Plan is a framework to guide the work of the Commission and its
committees, and is not meant to be exclusive. As times change and new
opportunities become available the Commission's planning will need to adapt.
2012 Meeting Schedule: The Commission also may need to adopt a new meeting
schedule for 2012. The current schedule would not allow for the participation of
Kayi ng Thao since the Roseville School Board, to which she was recently elected,
has meetings every second Tuesday of the month.
Respectfully Submitted,
Gary Grefenberg, Chair
Roseville Human Rights Commission
