<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 04/25/05 <br />Minutes - Page 14 <br /> <br />Maschka moved, Klausing seconded, approval of the <br />following claims and payments as presented. <br /> <br />ACH Payments $274,514.74 <br />38868-38985 468,525.96 <br />Total $743,040.70 <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Ayes: Ihlan, Maschka, Schroeder and Klausing. <br />Nays: Kough. <br /> <br />4.b Approve Wellness Program (former Consent Item 3.t) Wellness Program <br />Councilmember Ihlan sought clarification of the 2005 costs <br />for implementation of the Wellness Program, and whether <br />those costs would be absorbed by cost savings. <br /> <br />City Manager Neal Beets advised that, it was the goal and <br />hope of the Wellness Program that implementation would <br />absorb additional costs for the 2005 budget cycle. <br />However, Mr. Beets noted that staff wanted to ensure that <br />until those goals were achieved, and given that the city had <br />already entered into a health care contract for this year, <br />savings may not be realized until 2006. Therefore, staff <br />wanted to cover potential expenditures, up to $8,000 during <br />the transition time. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schroeder expressed continuing concern <br />regarding how equitable the program was to all employees, <br />specifically Incentive Choice #3 entitled, "4 hours paid in <br />taxable wages at current base wage," given the differential <br />in wages among employees and whether the employees <br />would be treated at the same dollar amount. <br />Councilmember Schroeder also expressed concern <br />regarding the ability for all employees to participate in the <br />program, if existing health problems (i.e., asthma) <br />prevented their participation in various exercise activities. <br />Councilmember Schroeder opined his preference that the <br />item not be voted on tonight, pending further review and <br />consideration. <br />
