Consider Adopting a <br />Resolution Indicating Interest in Participating in a <br />Consolidated Dispatch Center <br />City Manager Beets reviewed the background of the 800 MHz <br />radio system, and participation advantages and disadvantages for <br />the concept of consolidated dispatching. <br />Resolution 10302 <br />Mr. Beets reviewed costs and percentage estimates of the City's Consolidated <br />current dispatch system for fire calls through the City of St. Paul Dispatch Center <br />dispatch and police calls through Ramsey County dispatch, both <br />based on demand-based use. <br /> <br />Update <br />800 MHz Radio <br />System and a <br />Consolidated 9-1-1 <br />Dispatch Center <br /> <br />Mr. Beets reviewed current dispatch centers, services and <br />locations; consolidation considerations and opinions of other <br />communities; proportionate share of the City of St. Paul and <br />suburban communities and perceived inequities; and detailed the <br />various items outlined in the proposed resolution. <br /> <br />Discussion included the existing and proposed dispatch systems; <br />unfair shifting of cost burdens; potential delays and quality of <br />dispatch services; and advantages, disadvantages and cost- <br />sharing for a potential suburban dispatch center. Further <br />discussion included whether it would be feasible for the City to <br />provide for its own internal dispatch service. <br /> <br />City Manager Beets noted the concerns of police and fire <br />departments related to the potential quality of service from a <br />consolidated dispatch center given the negative relational and <br />working history of Ramsey County and the City of St. Paul. <br />
