Discussion of the article about the dissolution of the Golden Valley Human Rights Commission was <br />deferred to when Commissioner McKenzie was in attendance. <br />Essay Contest <br />Carolyn Curti reviewed the scores of the essay contest. She reminded Commissioners that that <br />winning students, teachers and principals would be invited to the February 27 City Council meeting, <br />and that the top three winners would be invited to read their essays. She encouraged all <br />Commissioners to attend and to join the students far the reception following the presentation. <br />Commissioners discussed the scoring process and whether they could change the ranking. <br />Commissioners agreed to follow past practice and award essays to the students who earned the <br />highest scores. They agreed to review the process in future years. <br />Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Jill Brisbois seconded motion to award first place to <br />essay #11, second place to essay #27, and third place to essay #236. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Singleton seconded motion to award honorable <br />mentions to essays # 31, 32 and 259. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Thao seconded motion that the Youth Engagement <br />Taslc Force be delegated the authority to develop a program and �e organize �e a <br />reception/celebration honoring the essay contest winners, and that they could spent up to $125. <br />During discussion on the motion Youth Commissioner Dao asked what previous Council <br />presentations and receptions had looked lilce. Carolyn Curti responded and described previous <br />instances of this program before the Council. <br />Grefenberg mentioned that the presentation would be a good opportunity to showcase the <br />Commission's youth engagement efforts and thus the involvement of the Youth Commissioners <br />would be appropriate. Commissioner Groff also encouraged the Youth Commissioners not to be <br />limited by the suggestions made tonight. <br />
