Organizational City Council Minutes - 1/5/04 Page 19 Councilmember Maschka enthusiastically shared his vision for a joint meeting between Councilmembers, department heads and commission chairpersons in an informal setting to receive input. Councilmember Maschka recommended a three-four hour afternoon session to initiate the process, to be followed by town hall meetings within the community (i.e., one evening town hall meeting and one Saturday morning town hall meeting to facilitate schedules). Councilmember Maschka opined the need to receive input from the above-referenced parties to allow the Council to determine community-wide needs, priorities and issues. Councilmember Maschka noted that it may be prudent to await election of the new Councilmember to hold a goal-setting session, but opined that the initial meetings with department heads, committee chairs and the town hall meetings to glean public input could be held at this time. Councilmember Maschka further opined his lack of support for using an outside facilitator. Councilmember Schroeder opined that the town hall meetings could be facilitated by Mayor Klausing; and endorsed using those as an opportunity to receive input from residents. Councilmember Schroeder opined the need for a facilitator at the goal-setting session to keep discussion on track and not lose information in the process. Councilmember Maschka noted that there were local people qualified to facilitate the goal-setting session. Councilmember Schroeder concurred, opining his lack of interest in spending the money for a facilitator. Councilmember Kough opined his desire to meet with neighboring conm1unity elected officials for potential sharing of equipment and other cost-saving ideas. Councilmember Maschka concurred exploration of those types of concepts.
