AI Sands, 2612 Aldine Mr. Sands expressed appreciation to Mr. Shardlow for his clarification tonight of several items that had caused concern for Mr. Sands. Mr. Sands questions the prudence for excluding those who had expressed strong opinions in the past; opining that when misconceptions were looked at with more information, more realistic solutions were available, and by including those who had a significant stake in the development of the area, a better end product would be produced. Mr. Sands noted prior concerns expressed in the community for the significant retail portion proposed for the project. Mr. Sands encouraged the City Council not to seek a "cheerleading" panel, which would continue division within the community and not achieve credibility for the Panel or the project. There were no other public comments. Mayor Klausing confirmed that having expressed a particular opinion should not exclude someone from making application for the Panel; noting that the issues needed to be discussed and resolved at the table. Councilmember Kough noted the need for positive people on the Panel to consider all aspects of a proposed project. Mayor Klausing opined that the Task Force would look at situations and realities and give the community perspective. Mr. Shardlow concurred with the need for diverse opinions on the Panel to make the process and project successful. Community Development Director Welsch noted for Council information, that he and Mr. Shardlow would begin working on a contract for Mr. Shardlow's consulting services, brining it forward in the near future for Council review and action.
