City Council Regular Meeting - 06/20/05
Minutes - Page 6

5. OVAL Issues OVAL Issues
Mayor Klausing introduced OVAL Task Force Chair Jake
Jacobson and Parks & Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke.

5.a

Accept OVAL Task Force Report and Authorize Staff
to Carry Out the Action Recommendations within the
Report
Council member Schroeder opined his satisfaction with the
report; however, in lieu of the funding received from
Guidant at a press conference held earlier that day,
suggested that the Task Force provide a brief oral report at
tonight's meeting, and meet to update their report in light
of the new information and funding, for future reporting to
the City Council with their updated recommendations.

Parks and Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke noted that
the work is just beginning with the OVAL, with
contribution specifics needing further discussion and
refinement, as well as the portion of the matching funding
anticipated as an endowment to sustain future operations
and repairs at the OVAL. Mr. Brokke noted, however, that
the OVAL Task Force had completed their task, and now
the OV AL Advisory Committee and user-group
representatives needed to begin their work in
accomplishing the recommendations of the Task Force.

OVAL Task Force Chair Jake Jacobson concurred with Mr.
Brokke, noting that today's events were the beginning, and
the projected business model would necessarily change
with the generous donation of Guidant Foundation, but that
other possibilities existed in endowments and matching
funds to sustain future operations.

Mayor Klausing announced, for those unaware, the
generous $500,000 check received by the City of Roseville
during a press conference earlier today from the Guidant
Foundation. Mayor Klausing also recognized that the
charge given the Task Force had been completed, and it
was now time to move forward with the Advisory Group,
Friends of the Oval Foundation, and the Parks and

OVAL Task Force
Report and
Authorize Staff to
Carry Out the
Action
Recommendations
within the Report
