<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 09/12/05 <br />Minutes - Page 15 <br /> <br />do the initial screening, then present his recommendation to the <br />City Council, with the City Council having the benefit of <br />reviewing all applications, and a smaller number of candidates <br />selected for interview purposes. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing opined his preference to have the HRA Chair sit <br />in during the interview process. <br /> <br />No formal action; Council consensus was to direct staff to follow <br />the normal Advisory Board vacancy process with a 30-day <br />application process. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing encouraged citizens to apply for this vacant <br />position. <br /> <br />12. <br /> <br />Consider a Process to fin a Vacancy on the Public Works, <br />Environment and Transportation (PWET) Commission <br />City Manager Beets noted that Mr. Mihai Marasteanu had <br />resigned from the Public Works, Environment, and <br />Transportation Commission due to scheduling conflicts; and that <br />only six months remained on his term. City Manager Beets <br />sought Council direction for filling the vacancy, or waiting until <br />the term expires and fill the position after the new Council is <br />seated after the first of the year; with the PWET operating with <br />their existing four members. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schroeder spoke in support of the PWET <br />serving with the existing members for the remainder of the term <br />and waiting for the new Council. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan spoke in support of using a similar process <br />recently used to appoint someone to fill out the remaining <br />months of the term. <br /> <br />Under those circumstances, Councilmember Schroeder expressed <br />his concerns with the ranking process and potential conflict of <br />interest concerns he had with an applicant. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing suggested the issue be tabled until a full Council <br />was in attendance. <br /> <br />Consider a Process <br />to fill a Vacancy on <br />the Public Works, <br />Environment and <br />Transportation <br />Commission <br />
