West Linn Tidings :: City picks manager finalists Page 2 of3

"I see the West Linn position as a challenge," he told an interviewing panel, "but there are
a lot of great opportunities as well."
Jordan said that staff members can affect the city's quality of life in many ways, including
building the satisfaction of its residents in their hometown.
"A lot of (creating satisfaction) comes down to setting a tone for the city," Jordan said,
"creating an expectation for the community as to what this city can provide - things like
when the city does a project it's sustainable, beautiful, it's done the right way and it's done
on budget.
"That creates satisfaction within the community. It also raises the expectations so that the
next project is even better. You do the same thing with private development, and make
sure that private development contributes to the city, adds to the community - doesn't
just take away things."
That satisfaction, Jordan said, is measured with community surveys and listening to all
facets of the community.

Other candidates
Additional semifinalists were John Atkins, Gene Green and Dave Kanner.

Atkins has a bachelor's degree in philosophy, and served in the military as an officer,
before becoming a journalist. He has 18 years of service
to the city of Anchorage, Alaska, finishing his work in the north country as assistant city
manager for three years at Dutch Harbor.

Kanner is the deputy county administrator for Jackson County in southern Oregon, with
1,100 employees and a $283 million budget.
