City Council Study Session - 06/21/04 Minutes - Page 28 meeting space was needed in the community. Mayor Klausing noted that another action item was included on a Study Session Agenda, but since a motion had been made and seconded, he would support it. Councilmember Schroeder spoke in opposition to the motion; given that this is a Study Session where motions aren't applicable for consideration in his opinion; and further noting his lack of a clear understanding of why consideration was being given to continuing use of this building without sufficient time for discussion of its role in the community and for the Fire Department. Councilmember Schroeder opined that by endorsing this motion, it would imply that three fire stations would continue into the future to warrant recouping costs for these repairs; and appearing to detract from any need for a fire station study. Councilmember Ihlan suggested that the item be considered on a future Consent Agenda, rather than tonight's meeting, if that were desirable of Councilmembers. Councilmember Maschka opined that, with remediation, timing was an important consideration. Parks and Recreation Director Brokke noted that, according to the City Hall campus construction project timetable, his department would be moving out of several other spaces, and anticipated relocating to the Fire Station as it became vacated. Councilmember Kough requested clarification from staff on the proposed remediation timeframe. Mr. Schwartz responded that it was anticipated that remediation and other improvements (i.e., dehumidification and ventilation improvements) could be accomplished by October 1, 2004 to accommodate the Parks and Recreation Department's vacation of their rental space.
