She questions the fruitfulness of small group discussions between
strangers on highly controversial topics.
Doneen will take the lead in arranging a meeting of this advisory group, working
with city staff.
The Commission itself will begin discussing at its next meeting whether it should
take a public position on the issue. No action will be taken at this meeting,
however, because of the need to proceed in an open and transparent manner.
Thao suggested an approach she described as a compromise: meeting with the
newly-formed advisory group from the Project 515 program, holding an
educational forum, and then the Commission would consider taking a position in
early summer. It was discussed that the Commission ought to consult legal
opinion regarding our right to express positions on issues.
The Advisory Group will meet at the Fireside Room (if available) on April 3ra
The Human Rights Book Club scheduled its first meeting for April 2nd at Cafe Zia.
Doneen will take the lead on organizing this. The first book or magazine article
will be selected by Thao in consultation with Doneen. It was suggested that the
Book Club be advertised in the Roseville Review, Patch, City News, and in a e-
mail to our HRC List Serve. Kris will work with city staff on this.
The next committee meeting was scheduled for 6:30pm, March 27t", at Cafe Zia.
