Accident with injury The additional workload created by responding to traffic accidents with injuries would increase our call load by an estimated 250 calls per year. For a point of information, we already respond to 120-150 traffic accident calls annually to clean-up hazards on the roadway (e.g. anti-freeze, gasoline, battery acid). Many of the traffic accidents we already respond to are also the traffic accidents that have injuries so they do not represent an increase in our call load. By responding to traffic accidents with injuries, the additional workload would increase our staff time utilization time from 25% to 37% per day. There is a need to balance time for paid-on-call firefighters to sleep, but increasing utilization to 37% does not cause concern in that regard. The incremental cost would be for the 250 additional traffic accident calls we would respond to annually. The payroll cost would be $12,500. The incremental cost for wear on the engine and fuel cost would be between $2,500 and $5,000. A11ina would replenish the medical supplies we use at no cost.
