Roseville residents are willing to pay extra for a
great park system.
2) The rankings in the recent City manager's memo should show "Quality of
Ufe" as number one. There is no doubt this relates to Park & Recreation
in this City. The current items ranked one through four are all "givens",
not reasons people live in this community.
3) There are funds from the Arona site sale that are (or were to be)
earmarked for Park & Rec. These funds could be used for such things
as the badly needed restroom facility at the Arboretum as well as
maintenance funding.
4) The best "bang for the buck" is when money spent is leveraged by a
huge number of community volunteers. The quintessential example of
this is our very own Park and Recreation Department. A great specific
example of small dollars leveraging huge community involvement and
therefore benefit. is the Harriet Alexander Nature Center.
5) We are concerned about beginning to sell any park land or green space
as this is a very slippery slope that one day could imperil even Central
Park, Roseville's Crown Jewel.

Our Parks & Recreation facilities and programs bring our citizens
together in unprecedented ways and thereby create a sense of community.
There is a substantial difference between being a community and just being
a legal entity called a city.

On behalf of the Roseville Central Park Board of Directors,

Monte S. Johnson, President
