<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 11/08/04 <br />Minutes - Page 20 <br /> <br />center and need for regional support to fund operations and <br />maintenance; with depreciated operating costs running at an <br />annual $200,000 deficit. Mr. Sands encouraged the City Council <br />to authorize the Task Forces as soon as possible and spoke in <br />favor of seeking assistance from the Minnesota Sports <br />Commission; other communities; and researching other revenue <br />sources; opining that the facility should be self-supporting. <br /> <br />Bill Cushman, 1265 Josephine Road, long-term member of <br />the Midway Speed Skating Club <br />Mr. Cushman thanked the City Council and the Parks and <br />Recreation Department for continued operation of what he <br />opined was the finest facility in the United States. Mr. Cushman <br />noted his desire to work out the long-term viability of the facility <br />and the continued support of the club in doing so; noting that <br />after the equipment investment has been completed and this <br />season was over, the Club wished to meet with individuals to <br />work out cost-sharing with the City of Roseville, based in part on <br />the Club's fees. Mr. Cushman noted that he had commissioned <br />the assistance of a former U.S. Speedskating Fundraiser who <br />expressed willingness to help the facility in those fundraising <br />efforts for regional support; and to seek the support of Governor <br />Pawlenty. <br /> <br />Mr. Cushman again thanked the City Council for their continued <br />support of the facility and reiterated the Club's desire to help in <br />any way possible. <br /> <br />Doug Root, 2468 N Hamline Avenue, Representative of the <br />Roseville Citizens League <br />Mr. Root expressed his willingness to participate in discussions <br />to address concerns, on an independent, non-partisan basis. Mr. <br />Root expressed concerns of the League regarding costs for <br />complete repair, and similar future system failures; and <br />expressed the League's official position was to support natural <br />Ice. <br /> <br />Nancy Nelson, 998 Brenner Avenue, Bandy Program <br />Coordinator <br />Ms. Brenner spoke in support of the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission recommendation for natural ice.
