<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 12/06/04 <br />Minutes - Page 10 <br /> <br />Public Works Director Duane Schwartz updated the City <br />Council on his most recent conversations with Mr. Pafko at <br />MnDOT, and a pending letter to the neighborhood and City <br />Council, addressing MnDOT's intent to keep the cross-over <br />closed at least over the winter months; and their intent not <br />to schedule a public meeting at this time. <br /> <br />Further discussion included the rationale for documenting <br />accidents after closure of the cross-over; illegal "cross- <br />over" of vehicles since the closure; and Police Chief <br />Sletner's acknowledgement that accidents were being <br />documented as part of standard operational procedures. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing directed that scheduling of a meeting be <br />put on hold pending receipt of the letter from Mr. Pafko <br />outlining MnDOT's intent. <br /> <br />B. Al Sands, 2612 Aldine <br />Mr. Sands, speaking as a resident in the affected area, <br />requested that the City Council take the initiative and <br />leadership related to this closure, as well as the impacts <br />planned by Ramsey County in their proposed changes to <br />southbound Snelling Avenue at County Road C and <br />negative impacts. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Schwartz advised Councilmembers <br />that, if they are interested in visiting with Ramsey County <br />regarding other options for County Road C at Snelling <br />Avenue, now was the time to do so before the proj ect <br />began next summer. Mr. Schwartz noted that staff would <br />be meeting with Ramsey County next week to discuss <br />several transportation issues; and he had recommended <br />that, at the discretion of City Manager Beets, transportation <br />issues be included on the City Council's Study Session <br />agenda in January or February of2005. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan questioned whether that would be <br />soon enough, or if action needed to be taken sooner. <br /> <br />Councilmember Maschka concurred that it would be <br />
