Regular City Council Minutes - 06/09/03
Page 2

Fire Chief Gasaway introduced the other speakers for
tonight's presentation.

Community Development Director Dennis Welsch painted
a statistical picture of Roseville today and tomorrow.
Today, our population is old compared to other metro
communities. Young folks tend to congregate in our
rental properties, and then move to other, outer-ring
suburbs to buy their own home; this is because of the high
price of Roseville homes.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Peterson spoke about the first
proposed goal this evening: "Improve The Quality Of
Fire And Emergency Medical Services (EMS) For The
Residents And Visitors Of Roseville. "

He indicated that patients want quick response times, relief
of pain, care and consideration for their medical
emergency, understanding of what is happening to them,
and a professional demeanor.

Assistant Fire Chief Tim 0 'Neill spoke about the second
goal this evening: "Improve The Way The Fire
Department Trains And Uses Firefighters' Time, And To
Use City Funds More Effectively To Provide City-Wide
Medical And Safety Training To Employees. "

He spoke about current training schedules and a proposed
new training schedule that would focus on training
firefighters while they are working a shift.

Deputy Fire Chief Bill Chandler spoke about the third
proposed goal this evening: "Be prepared to handle
natural and man-made disasters and other large-scale
emergencies. "

He stated that for the first hour +, of a man-made or
natural disaster, all communities - including Roseville-
will have to "stand alone" before regional resources are
available to help.
