Holt, Pederson, Ristow <br /> 6 ABSENT: Azer and Simbeck contacted staff with excused absence <br /> STAFF: Anfang, Brokke <br /> 9 1. INTRODUCTIONS/ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> 1YNone <br /> 12 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES—FEBRUARY 9,2012 MEETING <br /> 13 Commission Recommendation: <br /> 14 Minutes for the February 9, 2012 meeting were approved unanimously. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 3. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TASK FORCE REPORT <br /> 17 Doneen updated commission on the current work of the Community Engagement Task Force. Draft <br /> 18 recommendations by subcommittees are being compiled. Preliminary findings have been shared <br /> 19 with the City Manager with a meeting in the near future to discuss materials with the City Manager <br /> 20 planned for the near future. It is anticipated that recommendations to the City Council will come <br /> 21 this spring through the Human Rights Commission. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Doneen commented on how the Parks and Recreation Master Plan has served as an excellent model <br /> 24 for supporting neighborhoods and fostering community involvement. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 4. PARK & RECREATION RENEWAL PROGRAM DISCUSSION <br /> 27 Jason Etten introduced the agenda item and spoke briefly about the first three meetings and updated <br /> 28 the commission that there has been no new information on the current litigation status. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Brokke updated the Commission on the recent HANG community and neighborhood meeting. <br /> 31 Specifically, a community and neighborhood meeting was held February 15 at the Harriett <br /> 32 Alexander Nature Center to discuss plans for facility maintenance and boardwalk replacement. <br /> 33 More than 40 people were in attendance. The group was enthusiastic and anxious to get started with <br /> 34 the projects. Staff also shared the preliminary work of FORHANC and FORPARKS and their <br /> 35 intentions to contribute $30,000 each to internal improvements to the Center. Doneen recognized <br /> 36 the high level of interest by those in attendance. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 Brokke reviewed a recent meeting with the Public Works, Environment and Transportation <br /> 39 Commission. This group was very interested in the Renewal Program and asked how they might be <br /> 40 able to get involved, especially in the Natural Resources and Trails portion. Randall Doneen also <br /> 41 attended the meeting to share information on the work to date of the Natural Resources and Trails <br /> 42 Work group. <br /> 43 • Brokke mentioned interest in holding a joint meeting between the parks and recreation <br /> 44 commission and the public works, environmental and transportation commission in the <br /> 45 future to discuss the renewal program. <br /> 46 • It was also suggested that there may be a"pilot"project for the Natural Resources <br /> 47 Workgroup to help maintain the connection from the implementation program and assist <br /> 48 with recently applied for grant projects. <br />
