Consider Fire Truck Repair or Replacement Consider Fire <br />Kysylyczyn moved, Kough seconded, to direct that Truck Repair or <br />contingency funds be used for necessary repairs on Replacement <br />Engines 31 and 32 respectively by December 31,2003. <br /> <br />Fire Chief Rich Gasaway, at the request of <br />Councilmember Klausing to Mayor Kysylyczyn, and <br />concurrence by Councilmembers Schroeder and Kough, <br />reviewed his report on the department's vehicles, their <br />manufacture date and age. <br /> <br />Chief Gasaway reviewed the 20-year depreciation <br />standards for useful life utilized by the department, <br />depending on wear and tear; and stated the safety of <br />firefighters depending on the equipment was a major <br />consideration. Chief Gasaway reviewed the vehicle repair <br />costs over the last five (5) years, in addition to the $13,750 <br />estimated for current repair costs for Engines 31 and 32. <br /> <br />Chief Gasaway's recommendation was for replacement of <br />the two (2) vehicles with one (1) new vehicle. <br /> <br />In response to Council questions, Chief Gasaway <br />identified external body repairs performed in 1991 on <br />Engine 32; and other equipment options available for the <br />Council's consideration. <br /> <br />Councilmember Klausing questioned the prudence of <br />continuing to repair the unit, given it's age and condition, <br />suggesting it may be more fiscally responsible to purchase <br />one (1) new vehicle. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn expressed disagreement with this <br />rationale. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schroeder expressed similar concerns to <br />
