Driscoll. Mar

""':rom:
mt:
.0:
Subject:

Fun k F am WI"'TT..'~ "'~~!l[m_] . MrR'-j
Thursday, October 30, 2003 9:07 PM
city.council@ci.roseville.mn.us
Roseville Skating Center and the budget

Dear Council Members:

I was distraught when I heard that one of your proposals for balancing the city budget was
to close the aggressive park and limit the ice skating season to just a little more than 2
months. Your proposal would leave a recreation area that cost our city thousands and
thousands of dollars empty for 9 to 10 months out of the year.

without activity, the oval is an eye sore - a giant slap of cement collecting dirt. with
the aggressive park, young people are performing fascinating tricks which take hours and
hours and alot of hard work to
develop. These young people are active and staying out of trouble. When
the oval has ice, it is filling a major need for our community by providing
more ice. There is not enough Roseville ice go around as it is. Youth
hockey is traveling around the city trying to get practice time in. with ice on the oval,
the teams can get practice time in. Ice on the Oval also provides a fun and safe activity
for our community youth on weekends. On Friday and Saturday nights in November I have seen
the line going out the
door and down the parking lot waiting to get in for open skating. Many
people think the community youth can use the out door rinks, but think again. These rinks
are often not operating until December, are closed at night and the ice is poorly
maintained.

The city Council has found a way to improve the quality of your surroundings, and I hope
'~hat you are not going turn your backs on the quality of the programs you offer Roseville
outh in exchange.

Cheryl Funk
720 lona Lane
Roseville, MN 55113
