City Council Study Session - 04/17/06 Minutes - Page 7 community would be benefited by beekeepers voluntarily registering with the State of Minnesota; with the City partnering with the Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association, through Gary Reuters, to encourage beekeepers to register with the State of Minnesota. Councilmember Kough expressed concern that chickens not be allowed to be slaughtered in the City, outside a slaughter house. Councilmember Pust recognized the request of poultry keepers for City Code to provide more clarity. Councilmember Ihlan opined that she was not convinced that a separate ordinance related to chickens was required, suggesting that current code may address the issue given the few documented complaints. Councilmember Ihlan further opined that, if ordinance revisions ~lere needed, the group of producers and experts from the University of Minnesota campus be called upon for best practices and guidelines. Mayor Klausing, with Council consensus, directed the City Attorney to look at the City's current nuisance ordinance to determine what provisions existed to see if the identified issues from tonight's presentation and discussion, could be identified; and which provisions they were, and what gaps may be needing revision based on those issues raised during tonight's discussion. 5.
