<br />Regular City Council Minutes - 12/08/03 <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn brought the discussion to a close at this <br />time to be continued following the scheduled regular <br />Council Agenda for the evening, and those Public <br />Hearings scheduled. Mayor Kysylyczyn noted that there <br />would be no final decision on the budget at tonight's <br />meeting, as mandated by State law. <br /> <br />Assistant Fire Chief O'Neill noted several points for <br />clarification; that if the City Council chooses not to staff <br />the position at this time, the $69,000 set aside for the <br />position would need to remain in the training budget to <br />train firefighters. Mr. O'Neill also addressed the increased <br />cost of training and the on-shift versus off-shift training <br />costs, as well as the environment of a part-time department <br />and high employee turnover. <br /> <br />Ilecess Ilecess <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn recessed the meeting at 7:39 p.m. and <br />reconvened the meeting at 7:58 p.m. <br /> <br />Ileturn to the lle2ular Meetin2 A2enda Ilegular Agenda <br /> <br />I. Public Comment Public <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn called for public comment by members of Comment <br />the audience. <br /> <br />A. Mayor Kysylyczyn recognized numerous firefighters <br />wishing to speak to the previous budget discussion prior to <br />leaving the meeting. <br /> <br />District Chief Chris Snyder, 2052 Irene Street <br />Mr. Snyder spoke to the proposed Training Manager <br />position, recognizing the many opinions discussed, but <br />encouraged the City Council to consider the many benefits <br />in having a person dedicated to providing up-to-date <br />training in an ever-changing field, ultimately benefiting <br />the citizens that the department serves, visitors to the City, <br />as well as firefighters. <br />
