Mr. Squires noted that the ordinance was
proposed as a new Chapter (206 - Ethics Commission); and
followed other advisory public commissions of the Council (i.e.,
Chapter 205 - Public Works, Environment and Transportation
Commission).

Mayor Klausing requested additional comment from the City
Council at tonight's meeting.

Council discussion included language referring to consultants
and use of consultants; "anything of value" and "exception of
value" language with the language used by City Attorney Squires
mirroring state statute gift law language; pursuing a prompt
process for handling complaints; and Data Practices Act
inclusions.

Mayor Klausing momentarily left the bench at 8 :45 p.m. and
turned the gavel over to Acting Mayor Maschka; returning to the
bench at 8:48 p.m.

Councilmember Maschka, from a consulting firm perspective,
spoke in opposition to language including hired consultants as

Councilmem ber-
Initiated Items for
the Council
Meeting of May 22,
2006

Discuss an Ethics
Ordinance
