<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 07/24/06 <br />Minutes - Page 21 <br /> <br />advisable for inclusion on the City website (i.e., "Any e- <br />mails you send to the City Council may be shared with <br />other individuals and made public"). <br /> <br />Staff was directed to return to the City Council at their <br />earliest convenience with language suggestions for <br />inclusion on the website. <br /> <br />14.b Request of Councilmember Maschka: Consider <br />Prairie Grass Restoration Project at City Hall <br />Public Works Director Schwartz provided a history, <br />purpose and visual presentation of the prairie grass <br />around City Hall and the intended storm water retention, <br />reduction in run off, and natural environment to <br />encourage the eco-system and environmental friendly <br />design. <br /> <br />Discussion included variety of the native plantings and <br />insects; changes as the plantings mature; differing view <br />points of the natural versus manicured look; and cost <br />savings in maintenance of the area. <br /> <br />Further discussion included ongoing County Road C <br />reconstruction and impacts to the area and aesthetics; and <br />additional rainwater garden and shallow stormwater <br />ponding as a result ofthat project. <br /> <br />Councilmember Maschka opined that it as a great idea in <br />the wrong place, given the urban building at City Hall. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing opined his support of the native prairie <br />grass planting, suggesting it be given a few more years to <br />mature before making any decisions. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pust sought pictures from a distance; and <br />questioned whether the placement of it on the most <br />visible side of City Hall was appropriate. <br />Councilmember Pust expressed her cautious willingness <br />continue trying to get used to it, recognizing the <br />environmental benefits. <br /> <br />No formal action taken. <br />
