Councilmember-Initiated Items for the Council Meeting of August 14, 2006 15.a Request of Councilmember Ihlan: Consider City Council Candidate Orientation Session Councilmember Ihlan questioned staff's rationale for canceling the candidate orientation scheduled for Wednesday, July 19,2006. Interim City Manager Miller advised that there appeared to be uncertainty of how many candidates were available to attend on that date; and concerns of assembling six or more City staff for the meeting; in addition to the substantial written materials prepared and provided to candidates duplicating those items that would be discussed at the orientation meeting. Councilmember Ihlan opined the benefit of the orientation sessions she had attended; and expressed her interpretation of their value. Councilmember Pust concurred that the sessions were valuable to gather information; and since filing has ended, asked that staff contact candidates to poll their interest in a formal gathering; or if the written materials were sufficient. Councilmember Pust requested that, upon receipt of the candidate preferences, if a meeting was requested, that it be scheduled for the convenience of staff and when the majority of the people could attend; and to Councilmember- Initiated Items for Council Meeting of August 14, 2006
