<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 07/24/06 <br />Minutes - Page 23 <br /> <br />Works, Environment and Transportation Commission <br />look at the matter. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pust advised that she would check with <br />community visioning subcommittees to determine if <br />discussions were underway; work with other groups to <br />determine the status of discussions; and would return with <br />a recommendation, upon consultation with <br />Councilmembers Kough and Ihlan. <br /> <br />15. <br /> <br />Councilmember-Initiated Items for the Council Meeting of <br />August 14, 2006 <br /> <br />15.a Request of Councilmember Ihlan: Consider City <br />Council Candidate Orientation Session <br />Councilmember Ihlan questioned staff's rationale for <br />canceling the candidate orientation scheduled for <br />Wednesday, July 19,2006. <br /> <br />Interim City Manager Miller advised that there appeared <br />to be uncertainty of how many candidates were available <br />to attend on that date; and concerns of assembling six or <br />more City staff for the meeting; in addition to the <br />substantial written materials prepared and provided to <br />candidates duplicating those items that would be <br />discussed at the orientation meeting. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan opined the benefit of the <br />orientation sessions she had attended; and expressed her <br />interpretation of their value. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pust concurred that the sessions were <br />valuable to gather information; and since filing has ended, <br />asked that staff contact candidates to poll their interest in <br />a formal gathering; or if the written materials were <br />sufficient.
