<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 08/28/06 <br />Minutes - Page 14 <br /> <br />Mary Vidas, 1490 Lydia (4 blocks west of proposed <br />development) <br />Ms. Vidas opined her disappointment that this development <br />wasn't in keeping with the neighborhood ideal with the inclusion <br />of town homes; that single-family homes were at a premium in <br />the community; and that step up or affordable single-family <br />homes were appropriate, given the existing mix of <br />condominiums, town homes and apartments already in the <br />neighborhood. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing noted the developer's consideration of the <br />neighborhood's input to-date. <br /> <br />Ms. Vidas opined that most of the meetings were limited to <br />MPCA issues, with little time left for design discussions and <br />neighborhood preferences. <br /> <br />Raye Kanzenbach, 3030 Hamline Avenue N <br />Ms. Kazenbach spoke in support of single-family homes; spoke <br />in opposition to multi-family units; and encouraged the City <br />Council to move the project forward with lower density housing. <br />Ms. Kazenbach opined that single-family detached housing <br />would be welcomed by the neighborhood and would be good for <br />the City, new and current neighbors, and the School District. <br /> <br />Michelle Manke <br />Ms. Manke advised that she had not been aware of any public <br />meetings; and opined that homes with a higher price point were <br />not appropriate for this neighborhood, and expressed concern <br />regarding impacts such home prices would have on her home's <br />market value and taxes. Ms. Manke further opined that if <br />younger families were looking for larger homes, they were <br />looking further out in the suburbs for more acreage as well. Ms. <br />Manke expressed concern in future removal of businesses in the <br />Hamline Shopping Center and the need to relocate those <br />businesses; and spoke in support of smaller office support <br />services for senior citizens. Ms. Manke encouraged additional <br />input from the business and residential community before <br />proceeding further. <br /> <br />Discussion included preferences of families for large homes on <br />
