<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 08/28/06 <br />Minutes - Page 15 <br /> <br />large lots versus those preferences of families for larger homes <br />with less outdoor upkeep to accommodate work and commute <br />schedules, family time and leisure activities. <br /> <br />Ms. Manke opined that she was more supportive of the plan <br />presented tonight, with removal of the proposed four-unit town <br />home. <br /> <br />Mr. Paschke clarified that notice had been provided to property <br />owners within 500' of the parcel by the City for the Public <br />Hearing. Mr. Paschke advised that he couldn't speak to the <br />notice provided by the School District for the neighborhood <br />meetings. <br /> <br />Mr. Paschke further clarified that the proposed redevelopment of <br />the Hamline Shopping Center was in concept only, that it mayor <br />may not occur, and while originally proposing 14,000 square feet <br />of retail space, what actually developed may be vastly different <br />than originally proposed in concept format. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pust sought clarification from staff on the timing <br />issue for Public Hearing at the Planning Commission level to <br />seek their recommendation on the latest proposal. <br /> <br />Mr. Paschke advised that the City Council had several options, <br />but that the earliest available Planning Commission docket <br />would be in October in order to allow proper notice <br />accommodations, both published and mailed. Mr. Paschke <br />advised that recommended City Council action would be for a <br />motion referring the item back to the Planning Commission for <br />recommendation at their October meeting, and coming before the <br />City Council again at their October 23, 2006 regular meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Paschke reminded Councilmembers that the proposed five <br />town home units didn't need Planning Commission <br />recommendation, given no need for a Comprehensive Plan <br />Amendment for the town homes. <br /> <br />Discussion among Councilmembers ensued related to the policy <br />analysis and process. <br />
