Carol n Curti
From: Ralph Baumgartner
Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2012 11:06 AM
To: Carolyn Curti
Subject: Marriage Amendment
Dear friends and neighbors:
I am the pastor of Galilee Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roseville, and it Fas come to my attention that the Roseville
Human Rights Commission is considering whether to endorse the so-called Marriage Amendment to the State
Constitution that will be on the ballot in November.
I would like to encourage the Commission to make this endorsement for the follow9ng reasons:
• We should not pass constitutional amendments that RESTRICT rights of citizens--the purpose of a constitutian
is to limit the powers of government.
• Not all churches and communities of faith are opposed to gay marriage. We should not impose the wilf of some
religious groups upon the whole citizenry, especially on such a controversial is5ue.
• We should encaurage couples, gay and straight, to make solemn cammitments to one another and be
faithful. Doing so supports the stability of familie5, which is in the public interest.
Thank you, and may God bless you as you consider this complicated matter. Thank you aiso for your willingness to serve
on the Human Rights Commission on behalf of all of us.
Rev. Ralph Baumgartner, pastor
Galilee Evangelical Lutheran Church
145 N.
