I m pa ct of Yo u r Vote
On the Constitutional Amendment Defining Marriage
Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that
only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or
recognized as a marriage in Minnesota?
O Yes
O No
C A Yes Vote: would place the existing state law into
the state's Constitution. This would remove the
opportunity of state courts to consider the constitutionality
of the existing state law which includes this definition.
A`yes' vote will also make it more difficult for
Minnesotans in the future to change state law since any
changes would require another constitutional
amendment.
Q A No Vote does not create marriage for gay and
lesbian couples. Current Minnesota law already defines
marriage as one man and one woman.
A'no' vote preserves the legal status quo defining
marriage as between one man and one woman.
If adopted the amendment would limit the ability of gay
and lesbian couples to marry, and it would limit the
freedom of religious institutions to decide who they
should and shouldn't marry.
