<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 09/25/06 <br />Minutes - Page 6 <br /> <br />ACH Payments I <br />Total <br /> <br />$372.00 I <br />$372.00 <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Ayes: Maschka; Pust and Klausing. <br />Nays: Ihlan and Kough. <br /> <br />3.g <br /> <br />City Manager Search Progress Report and Award of <br />Contract for Search Firm Services <br />Interim City Manager Chris Miller reviewed the background <br />of the City Manager search; past City Council action at the <br />Council's July 24, 2006 meeting; request for proposals <br />specific to services for the initial selection of a short list of <br />5-7 candidates sent to four firms in the metropolitan area; <br />and selection of eight internal and eight external panelists <br />for conducting the first round of interviews on November <br />17,2006. <br /> <br />Based on the City's timeline, service needs, and financial <br />efficiency, as well as the methodologies and experience of <br />each search firm, staff recommended award of the contract <br />to Personnel Decisions international (PDI) of Minneapolis, <br />MN. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan spoke against a proposed motion; <br />reiterating previous concerns related to the timing of hire for <br />a City Manager, opining the need to wait until after <br />November Council/Mayor elections. <br /> <br />Discussion included internal staff workload; and the <br />experience of the five firms and the City's past experience in <br />working with any of them. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kough concurred with Councilmember <br />Ihlan, opining that there was no urgency in proceeding so <br />quickly; and further opined he didn't want to spend the <br />money at this time for outside consultants. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing opined his interest in keeping the process <br />moving forward; further opining that use of an outside <br />consultant was a prudent expenditure. <br /> <br />City Manager <br />Search <br />Progress Report <br />and <br />Award of Contract <br />for Search Firm <br />Services <br />
