Mathwig, representing the Police Department, and <br />Public Works Director Schwartz were available during <br />the presentation to respond to Council questions and <br />concerns regarding space needs. <br /> <br />Mr. Wentzell advised Councilmembers that the revised <br />Site Plans presented this evening had reduced required <br />space from an original approximate 63,000 square feet to <br />a more efficient use of space of approximately 47,000 <br />square feet. <br /> <br />Discussion items included the variable between new and <br />renovated square footage costs depending on <br />construction materials chosen; if this Site Plan remained <br />within the preliminary rough budget established by the <br />City Council; if the proposed building grade would <br />accommodate the area water table; ceiling heights in the <br />underground garage and training room; port doors; <br />adequacy of firing range and opportunities for cost <br />sharing with other public safety agencies; electronic <br />keying of the building upon construction as a cost-saving <br />measure, rather than as a later addition; interior and <br />exterior access areas and building security; <br />Fire Department access to the rear entry door; Lexington <br />Avenue access and traffic functions; <br /> <br />Councilmembers expressed concern that with this <br />proposed Site Plan, what would remain of the proposed <br />total project budget for renovating the Public Works <br />facility. <br /> <br />Mr. Schwartz concurred with Council concerns, and <br />stated that staff and the Architects were currently <br />reviewing alternatives and priorities related to their <br />current and future space needs. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn asked that the Architectural firm <br />respect the Council's meeting time and that practical <br />decisions be made regarding interior and exterior <br />
