FINAL REPORT
Report of Leisure Study Group
12/10/92
Roseville zs fortunate to have many current leisure programs and
facilities. Colectively they promote a high degree of unity, activi-
ty and pride. Some examples include Central Park, the Ice Arena, the
Activity Center,-Cedarholm Golf Course and the Harriet Alexander
Nature Center.
Leisure activity is a critical factor in evaluating quality of life
issues. The community is constantly demanding more quality Ieisure
activities. Today's leisure opportunities are multfaceted, and it is
important to offer a variety of qualty leisure apportunities at a
reasonable cost to the city and its participants. Convenient, quali-
ty leisure activity is an important factor in determining where sin-
gles, couples and families Iocate. In the future, it is also antici-
pated that this wi1Z be a greater contributing factor where businesses
locate.
The type of leisure activities offered in a community contributes
significantly to the demographics of the area. A vibrant and viable
community needs a balance of leisure activity which will attract
indivduals and famiZies of all ages, economic status and backgrounds.
The VISTA 2000 Leisure Study Group for the City of Roseville has
developed a vision for leisure activity in the community for the year
2000 and beyond. We have delineated goals necessary to realize that
vision. The group has also identified possible strategies and other
suggestans far achieving those goals. These goals are grouped under
five categories: Parks, Facilities, Volunteerism, Pathways and Pro-
grams.
VISION STATE!ffiT
The lezsure activities of Roseville shoud dEmonstrate a uniqueness
that reflects its diversity, creativity, talen, professionalism, and
especially the values of a proud community. We believe that the devei-
opment of activities and programs must accommodate a variety a inter-
ests, stimulate creativity and learning, allow for nature appreciation
and meet aesthetic, cultural, social and athletic needs of all in the
community .
Al1 lezsure activities and facilites wi11 be accessible for a11
persans and wi11 provide opportunities for participation by all age
groups from early chiZdhood to senior adults and for families as well
as for individuals. All leisure activities and facilities wil]. be
affordable and no resident will be precluded from participation be-
cause of financial constraints.
1
