� <br />� <br />� <br />� <br />"Residential so�id waste" means the garbage, rubbish, trash and <br />other solid waste resulting from normal household activities. <br />"Resource reco�ery" means the reclamation for sale or reuse of <br />materials, substances, energy, or ather praducts contained within <br />or derived from waste. <br />"Sanitary landfilling" is a method of disposing af solid waste on <br />land without creating nuisances ar hazards to public health or <br />safety, by conf�ning the waste to the smalles� practical areas, <br />reducing it to the smallest practical valume, and covering it <br />with a�ayer of earth at the end of each day's operation or more <br />frequently if necessary. <br />"Solid waste management" means the sys�ematic administration of <br />activities that provide for the collection, source separation, <br />storage, transportation, transfer, processing, treatment and <br />disposal of solid waste. <br />"Source separation" means separation of recyclable or compostable <br />materia�s by the waste generator prior to collection. <br />"Special wastes" are nonhazardous wastes that are not classif�ed <br />as mixed municipal solid waste. They include, but are not <br />limited to, construction debris, ash, street sweepings, mining <br />waste, sludges, tree and agricultural wastes, and tires. <br />"Unprocessed mixed municipal solid waste" means mixed municipal <br />solid waste frorr� which yard waste and identified recoverable <br />materials have not been subject to a process which oxidizes part <br />or al� of its organic component or any other process resulting in <br />an organically stabilized residue. <br />"Waste management" means activities that are intended to affect <br />or cantrol the collection, processing, and disposa� of wastes. <br />� "Waste reduction" is the process of reducing the amount af solid <br />waste generated. It includes product reuse, increased product <br />life, reduced material use in product design, and decreased con� <br />� sumption of products. I� also inc�udes activities such as <br />mulching/backyard composting af yard waste. <br />� <br />�� <br />�� <br />"Waoden waste" consists af waste generated from tree trimming or <br />cutting of trees, and discarded lumber. The following items are <br />includ�d: tree trimmings and shavings (wood chips), discarded <br />Iumber from home or commercial construction sites, and other <br />miscellaneaus waoden wastes. <br />"Yard waste" means leaves, grass clippings, or other organic <br />matezial created as a result of lawn and garden maintenance. <br />*Source: Metropalitan C�uncil Solid Waste Mana ement Guide/Polic <br />Plan <br />if <br />
