It is <br />recommended that the staff Naturalist be directed to explore the <br />feasibility of developing several demonstration sites at the <br />Nature Center. <br />Recommendatioa 6: Implemeat a��Don�t Bag It�' proqram, similar to <br />the Fort Worth, Tegas program. <br />Response: [implement with modification] The "Don't Bag It" <br />program referenced in this recommendatidn is a c�mprehensive <br />effort aimed at reducing yard waste. The program promotes proper <br />watering, fertilizing, and mowi.ng of lawns to prevent bagging <br />grass clippings. Participants were provided with complete and <br />comprehensive instructions, free fertilizer, and free use of a <br />Toro mulching mower. <br />While a program this ambitious wouZd be quite costly for the City <br />'of Roseville, the City sh�uld advocate that residents practice <br />the special "Don't Bag It" techniques developed by this program. <br />It is, therefore, recommended that the "Don't Bag Tt" techniques <br />be publicized in the City Newsletter in the ear�y spring of each <br />year. <br />Recommendation 7: Implement a pilot program, with a certain <br />number of selected volunteers qiven compost bins and mandatory <br />instructions for effective composting techniques. <br />Response: [implement with modification] Valuable information <br />can be obtained from such a pilot program. This servic� <br />is generally provided by independent haulers daing business in <br />communities. A recent yard waste survey canducted by Columbia <br />Heights reveals that of twenty-one communities responding, only <br />three provide leaf pickup, and only Roseville uses city staff for <br />these purposes.
