Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday,May 14,2012 <br /> Page 21 <br /> Mayor Roe and Councilmembers expressed appreciation to Mr. Miller for his <br /> work; with Mr. Miller in turn recognizing City Manager Malinen and Depart- <br /> ment Heads for their participation and efforts as well. <br /> e. Award Contracts for Fire Station Construction Contract for Bid Package <br /> #1 <br /> Fire Chief Tim O'Neill presented bids received for site/earth work, utilities, <br /> building foundation, and paving, as detailed in the RCA dated May 14, 2012. <br /> Councilmember McGehee questioned the need for contingencies, opining that <br /> the City had sufficient reserves, whether or not additional litigation occurred. <br /> At the request of Mayor Roe as to why she didn't support the contingency, <br /> Councilmember McGehee opined that a fire station was going to be built any- <br /> way, and rather than delaying potential work on the foundation, it could go for- <br /> ward quicker without that contingency. <br /> Councilmember Johnson spoke in support of the contingency as proposed by <br /> staff. <br /> Councilmember Pust advised that she would not agree to enter into any contract <br /> with the potential of any type of appeal possible, and no matter its outcome. <br /> Councilmember Pust opined that the recommendation of staff represented the <br /> responsible way to proceed when u sing public monies. <br /> McGehee moved, Johnson seconded, authorizing award of contracts for Bid <br /> Package #1 as listed below contingent upon no further appeals related to the is- <br /> suing of the bonds and meeting bond underwriter's requirements: <br /> _Contract# Description/Contractor Contract Amount_ <br /> 0330 Cast-In-Place Contract Foundations $209,763.00 <br /> Thompson Construction of Princeton, Inc. <br /> 3100 Earthwork/Utilities 331,500.00 <br /> Frattalone Companies, Inc. <br /> 3210 Site Paving 159,289.00 <br /> Midwest Asphalt Corporation <br /> Roll Call <br /> Ayes: Pust; McGehee; Johnson; and Roe. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> 13. Discuss Sign Ordinance Amendments <br /> City Planner Thomas Paschke reviewed this latest draft for proposed amend- <br /> ments to the City's Sign Regulations, previously developed in 2006/2007; and <br /> as detailed in the RCA dated May 14, 2012. <br />
