ecision
Reso res Ltd.
u
ESBCIITIVE SIIMMARY
This study contains the resuts of a telephone survey of 403
randamly seZected residents of the City af Roseville. Survey
responses were gathered by professionai intexviewers across the
community between September 6, and October 3, 1990. The averaqe
interview took twenty-nine minutes. In genral, random samples
such as this yield results projectabie to the entire universe of
adult Roseville residents within + 5.0 percentage points in 95
out df 100 cases.
Roseville is a generally mature inner-ring suburban
cominunity. The median iongevity of adult residents was 13.3
yeaxs. Almost one third of the sample reported moving to the
city during the past five years, while fity-faur percent had
been thre over a decade. Twenty-five percent of the hauseholds
contained school-aged cha.ldren; eleven percent reported pre-
schoolers. Seventy-two percent owned their current homes.
The average age of respQndents was 47.1 years ald. One-third
of the sample fell into the over 55 years age range, while one-
quarter was less than 35 years old. Forty-one percent reported
heads-of-households working in either ProFessional-Technical or
Owner-Manager jobs. Blue Collar households were sixteen percent,
while retirees accounted for a large twenty-three percent. The
median educational achievement was college graduation; in fact,
almost seventy percent of the sample had at least some college
experience. The median household yearly income was $37,500.00,
approxi.mately $I,500 lower than the current Metropolztan Area
suburban noz-in. In general, then, Roseville is a quintessential
"Pools and Patio" suburb: with the children grown, houses are
big and empty, except for overfiowing attics and basement storage
areas.
Location within the Metropolitan Area was the most liked
feature of the city; fifty-two percent inenioned it as the reason
for coining to Roseville. City services, people, strong neighbor-
hoods, schoals, parks, and peacefulness were also positive attri-
butes. A strong ninety-four pecent xated the quality of life as
either "exceilent" or "good;" the thirty-nine percent rating it
as "excellent" is at thE median for suburbs within the Metropoli-
tan Area. Residents are very satisfied with their lives in the
city. On the other hand, rapid growth and poor city services
were the most unpopuZar feature of the community, cited by
twenty-four percent. High property taxes were next as eight
percent. Development issues and the trade-off between city
serv'ices and property taxas appear to be the greatest concerns
z»SZ fa., ,n,rr . ;lirZne;rlil v1irinPnt -;-;l.lFi fFil?} cl?(1-fl"`:
