Forum ot► Race/Diversity Training Planning Mission Statement l2 ■ Partners 13 ■ Date, Time, Location 14 Further discussion included Commissioner Venters' completion of the Police Deparhz�ent's 15 Citizens Academy; continued bridge building and informarion sharing with the Police 16 Department through Sarah Mahmud 17 1 S Addirional discussion on a fiiture forum for regional law enforcement officers, POST Board 19 continuing education credits for attendance, proposed agenda and topics, who to invite (i.e., 20 Cities of 5horeview, New Brighton, Maplewood) and potential speakers/presenters (i.e., Ramsey 21 County, Attorney General's Office; POST Board personnel); hosting by the HRC; business 22 sponsorships ancl/or food; and inclusion of faith communities and other community 23 organizations. 24 25 The Commission discussed the status of the St. Paul Foundation's "Facing Race" program and 26 potential use in the City of Roseville following recent training ta the HRC a.nd how to encourage 27 attendance, sponsors, and presenters to the importance of a community forum to address fears 28 and get neighborhoods talking. 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 Consensus of the HRC's "ne� step" was for Coznmissioner McKenzie to e-mail the proposed Mission Statement to all commissioners, at which time she would submit the Mission Sta.tement to the United Way for their assistance in programming a cornmunity forum, and asking the United Way to contact City Manager Malinen to initiate proposals, planning activities and logistics for a comrnunity forum, followed bringing the results oithat conversation #o the HRC. 36 Camrnissioners discussed a potential date, noting the need for advance planning time, setting a 37 tentative target date of the secand Tuesday in October, the HRC's regular meeting date, for a 38 community forum. 39 40 Proposed Housing Qrtlin�nce 41 Further discussion was led by Commissioner Venters on the next steps, as the HRC was asked by 42 the City Council to obtain additional research on the proposed housing ordinance; and agencies 43 or resources available to provide additional information; Commissioners Oftelie and Crump 44 volunteered to assist Commissioner Venters in reviewing similar ordinamces �n other 45 comrnunities in Minnesota and narionwide; lack of case law; police force requirements in 46 obtaining immigration status and/or restrictions in border cities; whether additional discussion
