Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minrrtes — March 13, 2007 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />1 Float for Rose Parade <br />2 Commissioners discussed their involvement in the Parade with limited interest; however, <br />3 Commissioner Crump "volunteered" Commissioner Venters to assist him in pursuing and <br />4 participating with a unit in the parade. Discussion included whether to involve five students <br />5 chasen from those essay contest entries and coordinating with Carolyn Curti on logistics and a <br />b vehicle. <br />7 <br />8 Chair Delmore and Commissioner McGehee advised they didn't rvish to participate in the <br />9 parade. <br />10 <br />11 Generic Complaint Form <br />12 Discussion was held regarding a generic compiaint form was held with City Manager Malinen. <br />13 Commissioner Venters suggested a format similar to the City of Minneapolis' S-1-1 service for <br />14 residents. Consensus was that the iinportant goal was to enhance communication and garner <br />15 respect. <br />1b <br />17 City Manager Malinen and Commissioners discussed the HRC's role in the coznplaint process, <br />18 with City Manager Malinen's initial reaction was that the City Administrative Office and staff <br />19 should handle complaints and questioned whether the purpose of the HRC as �a body was <br />20 intended to serve in the funetion of complaint takers or to provide education and recornrnend <br />21 programs to the City Council relatcd to human rights. <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />2b <br />2'1 <br />28 <br />29 <br />30 <br />31 <br />32 <br />33 <br />34 <br />City Manager Malinen expressed interest in a generic cornplainticompliment form to solicit input <br />from people and receive feedback rather tharx for the purpose of addressing individual behavior <br />i ssues. <br />City Manager Malinen and Chair Delrnore agrced to mect for further discussion outside the HRC <br />meeting. <br />Comrnissioner Higbee suggested a form be developed far distribution at ihe July �`h park event. <br />Commissioner McGehee suggested a way for the public to go through the website far a form, <br />rather than needing to personally contact City Hall. <br />35 City Manager Malinen updated the HRC on the revisions currentiy underway on the City's <br />36 website ta make it easier to navigate and provide more uniformity between departments; and <br />37 suggested the HRC provide input to staff {Tim Pratt} on a poteniial pagc that would educate <br />38 people about the HRC and how tfl conEact thezn. Commissioner C�rump volunteered to contact <br />34 staff to configure the HRC section of the website in a more user-friendly way to provide an <br />40 opporttuuty for feedback and to allow the HRC more timely content. City Manager Malinen <br />41 noted he would advise Mr. Pratt to contact Commissioner Crump. <br />42 <br />43 City Manager Malinen also noted that he r�vould be discussing r�vith and advocating the use of <br />44 community surveys to determine sentiments of the community and how to better manage <br />45 resources. Mr. Malinin suggested this rnay be another avenue for feedback for the HRC with <br />46 questions related to cultural differences and inclusion. <br />
