Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes — April l l, 2007 <br />Page 6 of 7 <br />1 Discussion included the district's vision and how the communiiy coult� hecutne a�,arttier in <br />2 achieving that vision in getting sfaff, students and parents into the communuty and increasing <br />3 their invalvement in training the community outside thc confines of the school. <br />4 <br />5 Commissioner McGehee opined that this was a h�xge topic and should be the focus of the next <br />b agenda to determine what a potential program could look like and how to achieve community <br />7 ownership. Commissioner MeGehee suggested that each comumissioner could take a specifc <br />8 assignment area and bring forward ideas and coordinate the structure and process with the school <br />9 district an specific geographic areas of partiicular groups needing assistance that wauld be trtost <br />10 beneficial to the district initially. Commissioner McGehce opined that the City's Parks and <br />11 Recreation Department may be a good place to start diversity training for department employees <br />12 and their involvement with children in the community. <br />13 <br />14 City Manager Malinen opined that this would provide an excellent opportunity for city and <br />15 school district collaboration and involve othcr segments of the city's population. <br />16 <br />17 Coirunissioners concurred that this was a great opportunity to foster a partnership with the <br />18 school, and this initial project would serve as a foundation, and could serve as the HRC's only <br />19 major projeci for the remainder of 2007, given the enormity of the project. <br />20 <br />21 Chair Delmore quesiioned City Manager Malinen on the type of diversity training currently <br />22 offercd by the City to their employecs. City Manager Malinen responded that he would need to <br />23 investigate that further, given his short tenure with the City. <br />24 <br />25 RAS Divexsity Task Fflrce Update <br />26 Chair Delrnore briefly summarized her attendarice on the Task Force; noting that the i.nforznation <br />27 was nearing completion and submission to the State of Minnesota.. <br />28 <br />29 <br />30 <br />31 <br />32 <br />33 <br />34 <br />35 <br />36 <br />37 <br />38 <br />39 <br />40 <br />41 <br />Co�nmissioner Delmore opined that the proposed partnership of the HRC and School District <br />was a"big thing" and a great partncrship opportunity, needing good focus and energy. <br />Chair Delmore noted that the Cornmission had previously discussed 2-3 events, such as foru�ns <br />for the 2007 calendar year. <br />Comx�issioner McGehee opined that the HR.0 should wait and see what Chair Delmore found <br />out from her contacts with the St. Paul Foundation and Chaska Police Department; however, <br />suggesied that Allax� Page would make a great speaker for a forum <br />Chair Deimore advised that she would bring back additional infor�mation on a Youth <br />Commissioncr and the St. Pau1 Foundation for the next meeting. <br />42 Discuss Appointments of Commission Members <br />43 Chair llelmore and Cornrnissioner McGehee sought clarification on tile appointment of <br />44 Commission members and the process the City Council was following; specifically addressing <br />45 recent citizen concerns regard�ng the appointment #o the �Iousing and Redevelopment Authority <br />
