The 2005 meeting schedule is as follows: January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12, May 1Q, June 14, July - No Meeting, August 9, September 20, October 11, November I5, and Decerr�ber 13. Commissioner Wagner encouraged Commissioners to mark their calendars and to participate in the Rose Parade on June 27. February E�ent Cornmissianers discussed ways to celebrate Black History Month. In 2004, the HRC hired Mark Taylar, one of Commissioner Karen Vnuk's coworkers, to do a reenactsnent of Dr. Martin Luther King's I Have a Dream speech. The performance was done at the Roseville Library and although r�vell attended, it did not reach as large of an audience as Commissioners would like. Commissioners discussed other venues including the different schools. Commissioners agreed to approach Parkview School to see ifthey are interested in hosting the performance during the week of February 14. Carolyn Curti will send a video of last year's performance to Parkview Principal Lee Bauer to see if the school is interested in the Human Rights Commission sponsoring a performance for the school. Commissioners discussed offering the $100 stipend in the form aia gift certificate to Mr. Taylor. Commissioners also discassed boolcmarks for the students and a gift to the school. Commissioner Janet Delmore will recommend age appropriate books to include on bookmarks fhai will be distributed to the students. Outreach to New RAS Teachers Commissioners discussed whether to invite new RAS teachers to an upcorning HRC meeting. Rather than inviting them to a meeting, Commissioners directed Carolyn Curti to draft a letter to the teachers that includes information about the Human Rights Commission and offers help if they need speakers. The letter should also ask for feedback on the welcome packet and ways the Commission could irnprove it. Human Rights Curriculum Carolyn Curti distributed information from the University of Minnesota's Human Rights Resource Center webpage about their Human Rights Curriculum. She suggested that the Commission review this information before tryir�g to create our own curriculum. Chair McKenzie will get the names of schools that are piloting this curriculum and then the HRC can talk with the schools to find out how the curriculum is working. Human Rights Day Chair McKenzie and Comir�ssioner Smith attended the 215t annual Human Rights Day Conference on December 3. The keynote speaker was Moms Dees, chief trial counsel for thc Southern Poverty Law Center. The Day was well attended, about 600 people with a greater representation from outstate Minnesota. 2
