The 2005 meeting schedule is as follows: January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12, May <br />1Q, June 14, July - No Meeting, August 9, September 20, October 11, November I5, and <br />Decerr�ber 13. <br />Commissioner Wagner encouraged Commissioners to mark their calendars and to participate <br />in the Rose Parade on June 27. <br />February E�ent <br />Cornmissianers discussed ways to celebrate Black History Month. In 2004, the HRC hired <br />Mark Taylar, one of Commissioner Karen Vnuk's coworkers, to do a reenactsnent of Dr. <br />Martin Luther King's I Have a Dream speech. The performance was done at the Roseville <br />Library and although r�vell attended, it did not reach as large of an audience as Commissioners <br />would like. Commissioners discussed other venues including the different schools. <br />Commissioners agreed to approach Parkview School to see ifthey are interested in hosting <br />the performance during the week of February 14. Carolyn Curti will send a video of last <br />year's performance to Parkview Principal Lee Bauer to see if the school is interested in the <br />Human Rights Commission sponsoring a performance for the school. <br />Commissioners discussed offering the $100 stipend in the form aia gift certificate to Mr. <br />Taylor. Commissioners also discassed boolcmarks for the students and a gift to the school. <br />Commissioner Janet Delmore will recommend age appropriate books to include on <br />bookmarks fhai will be distributed to the students. <br />Outreach to New RAS Teachers <br />Commissioners discussed whether to invite new RAS teachers to an upcorning HRC meeting. <br />Rather than inviting them to a meeting, Commissioners directed Carolyn Curti to draft a letter <br />to the teachers that includes information about the Human Rights Commission and offers help <br />if they need speakers. The letter should also ask for feedback on the welcome packet and <br />ways the Commission could irnprove it. <br />Human Rights Curriculum <br />Carolyn Curti distributed information from the University of Minnesota's Human Rights <br />Resource Center webpage about their Human Rights Curriculum. She suggested that the <br />Commission review this information before tryir�g to create our own curriculum. Chair <br />McKenzie will get the names of schools that are piloting this curriculum and then the HRC <br />can talk with the schools to find out how the curriculum is working. <br />Human Rights Day <br />Chair McKenzie and Comir�ssioner Smith attended the 215t annual Human Rights Day <br />Conference on December 3. The keynote speaker was Moms Dees, chief trial counsel for thc <br />Southern Poverty Law Center. The Day was well attended, about 600 people with a greater <br />representation from outstate Minnesota. <br />2 <br />
