Commissioner Smith agreed to contact Susana DeLeon and Chuck Samuelson. <br />Commissioners a�,reed to ask Chair Tt�elma McKenzie to contact area Hu.man Righis <br />Commissions. <br />Invite Roseville Police to Polzce-Community ReIations Training <br />Commissioners asked for a better explanation of the Police-Community Relations Training. <br />Carolyn Curii explained that the League of Minnesota Human Righis Commissions has <br />developed a community rclations training session. They havc contacted all chiefs of police <br />throughout the state offering to help conduct human rights training. The League has asked <br />local commissions to follow up with personal letters to thcir chiefs of police. Commissioners <br />agxeed to ask Chair McKen�zie to follow up with a letter. <br />City Code of Nondiscrimination <br />Carolyn Curti reported that soxneone raised questions about whether the City of Roseville <br />included sexual orientatiat� among the list of protected classes in the City's Code. Curt� found <br />that Section 204.03 of the Code statcs ".. ,.secure for all ciixzens equal opportunity in <br />employment, housing, public accommodations, public services and education and full <br />participatiori in the affairs of this community by assisting the statc department of huznan rights <br />in implementing the Minncsota human rights act, Minnesota statutes section 363.O1. et <br />seq..... <br />» <br />Section 1207.27 of the Code states "The franchisee shall at all times comply with the <br />provision of the City of Roseville Code and applicable state and federal law regarding <br />nondiscrimination and civil rights. The franchisee, its agents, employees, contractors and <br />subcontraciors shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, age, <br />sex, religion or disabzlity in connection with its services provided pursuant to this Franchise <br />Ordinancc." <br />Commissioners agreed that Secrion 1207.27 should be changed to reflect all protected classes. <br />They further agreed that the Code should make reference to the Minnesota H�man Riglits Act <br />rather than listing the prptected classes. This would prevcnt having to make changes to the <br />Code if the state makes other changes to the Human Right Act. Commissioners directed <br />Carolyn Curti to c�raft a Request for Council Action and to send the draft to Commissioners to <br />review befoze it goes to the City Council. Curti indicated the RCA wauld likely not go to thc <br />Council until late ruly. <br />Adjournment <br />Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. <br />� <br />
