5. CounciI of Churches specifically
Roseville area churches;
6. Roseville Schools;
7. These were three areas she
suggested that the commission could partner with or assist her:
1. She wondered if we might know of or could find members of the community who are
from ethnic cultures within Roseville and wouid be willing to serve on the Education
Diversity Committee. We don't have enough mcmbers ard she would like io also have
representatives from the Somali, Hmong, American Indian anci Latino communities, in
addition to other cultural communities within Rosevile.
2. She also thought it wauld be helpfiil if we have community folks who are from
various cultures that would be willing to speak in the schaols about their cultures. Since
different age groups have different abilities to understand, maybe different
speakers would be needed for different age groups. I.E. Twa Latino speaicers available,
one who can relate a speech to young kids, another who can relate a speech to older kids.
I hope I am clear enough about what I mean. Also, these speakers could also speak to
teacher audiences.
3. Joanna wotld like to start a cultural day for the schools. We could maybe partner with
her in implemeniing it.
These are just thrcc more ideas to present to the committee. I think recruiting speakers
from Roseville's communities of color might be a good way to partner with cornrnuniiy
members and educate others at the same time.
I will be heading out of state on Sunday and will be out that week. Hopc you enjoy the
holidays!
Karen
From Karen (December 5)
• Celebrating Diversity by having a week long celebration of different events
around the City
• A web site that gives information on the commission and what it does
• A calendar that is a compilation of pictures or storics put together by kids on
human rights issues (cauld be sold to make some extra money for activities the
commission would like to do)
• The commission could develop speech material on human rights issues and get on
speakers' lists for local businesses, schools, churches, etc.
