The following are
some ideas T'vc just been lrnocking around in my own head:
i} Develop a resource iibrary for the Roseville community on Hunnan Rights issues. The
U of M Hnman Rights Library is an excellent resource for rnaterials, with a huge
collection of human rights documents. Their website is vwv.umn.edu/lumanrts.
2) Provide additional leadership firaining for board members and other interested
members of the community. The Human Rights Resource Center (HRRC) ac#s as a
clearinghouse for huFnan righ#s educators and activists in the US and abroad. They have
a Training of Traincrs prograrns in collaboration with the Stanley Foimdation.
Their website is www.hrzisa.or
3) Foster partnerships by networking with other human rights organizatzons in the metro
area such as the United Nations Association of Minnesota, the local chapter of A.mnesty
Iniernational, as well as with other leadership oriented associations and organizations
such as the Lions, Kiwanis, Knights of Calumbus, Jaycess and Junior League in
Roseville.
4) Deveiop a sister city relationslip (if one hasn't been developed in Roseville} wiih a
distant country with a very different culture and understanding of human rights (maybe in
the Middle East!) in order to broaden our understanding of human rights issues on a
global scale.
5} Invite scholars, such as Humphrey Fellows or Fulbright Scholars, to give public
presentations for Roseville citizens, who might discuss issues such as the development of
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention to End Discrimination
Against Wornen (CEDAW) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in their
countries.
These were just some ideas. I have to keep telling myself we need to "think globally - act
locally" - please let me kriow if you think and whether or not I'm on the right track at all
with these kinds of suggestions, Thanks and talk to you sQOn.
