Building New and Strengthening Existing Partnersl�ips with Community and Businesses Larry <br />Voeller reported that a letter was sent to the hotels in Roseville, offering the Commissians interest <br />and willingness to meet wifili them to discuss human rights issues. The letter asked hotels to contact <br />the Commission, but we have not heard from any. Commissioners asked Carolyn Curti to follaw up <br />with Dino LoBaido, Roseville Visitors Association Director, to see if there was any discussion <br />about the letter. <br />Thelma McKenzie and Larry Voeller will discuss whether to send additional letters and fo whom. <br />Proclamations <br />Carolyn Curti explained to the Commission that she writes several proclamations each year to <br />cornrnernorate special months i.e. Black History Month, Women's History Month, Martin Luther <br />King Day. She asked Commissioners for help in providing background information artd additional <br />cornrnemorative months. Cornmissioncrs requested that the proclamations be posted on the Human <br />Rights Web page. <br />Roseville Area Schools Comprehensive Diversity Plan <br />Karen Vnuk reported that the Diversity Committee is considering a multi-cultural day and/or <br />speakers for students and teachers. They are also looking for assistance in cultural training. <br />Specific goals that they want to work on are training for district employees to effectively <br />cornmunicate with families and the community and attracting and retaining diverse families and <br />teachers. Two issues are that peoplc of color are not getting hired and if they do, they do not stay. <br />Commissioners discussed ways to help welcotne new teachers and ta encourage them to stay in the <br />community. <br />Commissioners asked Karen to invite RAS Diversity Coordinator Johanna Eager to the May <br />meeting to brainstorm ideas. <br />Carolyn Curti will put together a iist of City resources, including RosevilZe's New Resident Packet <br />and information about low interest home loans available through City programs. <br />Miscellaneous <br />Theltzaa McKenzie reminded Commissioners of the League of Minnesota Human Rights <br />Commissions annual meeting on S�ptember 19, 20a3. She would like to present Roseville Arca <br />Schaols EMID plan. <br />Martha Hardesty moved and Howard Wagner seconded that the meeting adjourn. Meeting <br />adjourned at 8:55 p.m. <br />
