Committee Reports <br />HRC Brochure — Steve Zorn distributed a draft of the brochure and explained the rer.vrite. He <br />removed the No-Fault Grievance piece and added a mission statement. <br />Corrunissioners discussed the purpose of the brochure. Is it a prornotional piece or a promise of <br />what the Cammission can do? Others discussed whether the protected classes should be listed_ <br />Commissioners suggested that phone numbers be updated and web addresses included. <br />Commissioners discusse� the picture on the brochure and suggested that we look at aItematives. <br />Steve will rework and rr�ake available before the next meeting. <br />Improving and Increasing Education and Outreach — Kaxen Vnuk reported that she attended the <br />Roseville Area Schools Diversity Committee meeting. They may be changing their name to the <br />Equity and Integration Committee. Phil Crump said that he is trying ta find a cor�puter <br />program/activity that the library could promote specific activities. He visited the Library to discuss <br />displaying books and activities to proinote corr►memorative months, but he had not talked with <br />ariyone yet. <br />Karen Vnuk said that she is looking for dircction from the Corrxmission. The Commission has <br />raised many good ideas including diversity week, improved web site, calendar, speech materials, <br />poster contest, calendar, but she does not know which the Commission wants to pursue. <br />Commissioners discussed several ideas. <br />Thelma MeKenzie wanted to build on their successes with the schools. Phil Crump suggested <br />combining the poster and essay conlests and have essay contest winners read their essays while <br />showing the poster winners on the cable channel. Commissioners liked the idea of creating a <br />calendar from posters that young students draw bnt had questions about the cost. <br />Karen Vnuk will contact printers to get prices for printing posters and calendars. <br />Provide Leadership on Human Rights Issues — Mark Chapin reported that he and Patty Tschida <br />came np with a list of possible actians. Some of the suggestions included estahlishing an online <br />resourcc library, provide leadership training, foster relationships with other Human Rights <br />Commissions, establish a relationship with the Sister City prograrn, invite scholats to give <br />presentations in the City and sponsor a forum that can he played on the cable channel. <br />Larry Voeller suggestcd getting a list of all of the ideas that the Commission has discussed and then <br />have the Commissioners select their top choices. Carolyn Curti will put together a list and bring to <br />the next meeting. <br />Thelma McKenzie said she would �ring in thc work plan she has been working on and distribute at <br />the next tneeting. Mark Chapin asked that we review the Strategic Plans that Commissioners <br />warked on about a year ago. <br />Mark Chapin reported that thc proposed bill to rernove sexual preference from the Human Rights <br />protected classes is not going anywhere this legislative session. <br />
