���� <br />�.� <br />Human Rights Commission <br />St Paul Foundation <br />Creating an Anti-Racist Community Grant Application <br />INTR�DUCTION <br />The City of Roseville Human Rights Commission {RHRC} respectfully requests funding <br />for an educational project that addresses issues of racism in the Roseville community. <br />More speci%caliy, we propose working with an elementary school and an established <br />theater corr;pany to develop plays or vignettes and a corresponding curriculum that <br />addresses issues of racisrn. <br />The RHRC is appointed by the Roseville City Council to: <br />I. Provide a method for citizen input concerning huinan nghts issues; <br />2. Promote a positive human rights climate in the corr�munity; and <br />3. Provide educational opportunities about human rights_ <br />All Commission members live in Roseville. The eleven members have a broad range of <br />experience, both personal and professional, in dealzng with Human Rights issues. They <br />have a variety of work experiences including attorneys, mediator, professor, psychologist, <br />sociai worker and business people. They range from a high school student to senior <br />citizens. The members represent a broad noix of races, gender and ages. (Mcmbership <br />list is attachEd.) <br />The RHRC has served the community since 19G8. Members are appointed to rotating <br />threc year terms and can serve up to three terms. The Roseville City Council strives to <br />appoint a diverse membership on aIl commissions, especially on the RHRC. <br />Throughout the years the RHRC has sponsored many activities to raise awareness about <br />racial issues. Recent activities include ar� annual Human Rights essay contest for seventh <br />and eighth grade students, community forums on racial issues and training opportunities <br />for City staff and elected officials. The RHRC also monitors allegations of <br />discrimination and works to educate individuals and the community about discnminatory <br />actions_ <br />The RHRC is buitding a Humart Rights Network within the City of Roseville. The <br />Network includes Coznznussion members, all Roseville religious communities and <br />businesses and individuals who have expressed interest and concern over human rights <br />issues_ <br />The RH.RC operates with limited �nancial resources_ Connmission members generously <br />donate their time to promote human rights in the commt�zzity. To enhance our <br />effectiveness, the R�-IRC wilI partner with the Roseviile Area Schools {letter of support <br />
