Roseville Sister City Association
Mintes
Apri1 1, 2003
Present: Joyce and Jim Boardson, Jan Schultz, Tom and Virginia Turba
Minutes: Previous minutes approved, although there was some confusion over the
correct date/time for tonght!
1. Treasurer's report: not available
2. Shinmachi: The group still has not had applicants from Roseville to go to
Shinmachi. A group is still. expected to come here consisting of 10 srudents
and 2 adults. Host families are still needed here. Mary has been in contact
with Shinmachi. Shinmachi said they wauld understand if we did not have
students to go over.
3. Costa Rica: There has been no contact between local colleges and Cartago.
Local colleges had hoped to expand activities, but are now in budget-cutting
activities instead. There have been no requests from college students to come
for a month, as has happened in the past, at this time.
Thanks to the efforts of Mary Meyer, we have secured a Singer sewing machine to
send to Costa Rica. Joyce took 2 to Round Babbin for inspection and received
a recommendation on one. Round Bobbin was very hepful with providing extra
cams and instruction book. Tom will contact Lupita to see how we can get it
safely to Cartago. We are still looking for a laptop computer.
4. New Business: The 5horeview group meets on the same Tuesday. Tom has discussed
with them about having a joint meeting/activity and learn what type of activities
they do, etc. We may get together for a picnic activity in July. One represen-
tative may come to our meeting next month.
5. Futiure activites: The parade wil_1 soon be upon us. Jan has the candy from
last years rain-out. She will check if it is srill okay. soyce is contacting
a new scout group for this year. She does not know yet if they will participate.
So, if. you know anyone that would li.ke to being the parade to hand out candy,
please keep them in mind. We are also in need of assistance for flag carrying
as not all of our previous years helpers will be available.
China connection: We are sti1l expecting a group from China, possible as early
as May, probable be£ore the parade. How many is not known. We expect a 3 day
visit. Help will be needed. They are inreresCed in business/industrial acti-
vities to observe. If you have ideas, please let Tom know.
6.
