Roseville Sister City Association <br />Minutes <br />August 7, 2002 <br />Present: Joyce and James Boardson, Mary Meyer, Carol Stark, �om and Virginia Turba <br />Minutes: <br />1. Onfortunately, the Rosef.est Parade was cancealed 10 minutes before we were to <br />enter the starting gate. After one loud clap of thunder and bolt of lightening, <br />followed by ten minutes of rain, the parking Iot was empty of participants and <br />Joyce had an arm full (and then some) of wet costumes � which she laundered <br />unti3_ 12:30�M. Hopefully, Boardsons were able to presexve tihe float parts, <br />which had been "glittered" up this year, to be used next year. <br />2. Uisplay case: At last, the display case has found a home - at least unt�1 <br />the end of September! It is in Che ha�X/entry area at Fairview Community <br />Cer_ter. It Ioaks Iike it was meant to be there! Stop by and take a look. It <br />]_ooks like it was meant to be there. A Iabel still needs to be put on the top <br />to identify us. City Hal1 would like us to trade some of the items in their <br />case. Tf you have somethin�, let Joyce know. Jan will bring some vases. There <br />really was nothing to trade between �he 2 display case. .Toyce will be returni.ng <br />the ite�s that did not fit in the case. <br />3. Roseville has set up a web site for Sister City. If you have anq pictures that <br />could be used of our activities, please 1et Tom know. They will be scanned and <br />returned to you. <br />4. Treasures's report: Carol announced that we have a total of $320.00 dollars. <br />The vast majority of this is for. the Shinmachi group. With the mergin of <br />banks, our account is now eligible for "non-profit status, which will save us <br />some monthly fees. <br />S. The Japanese students arrive August 8, with 10 students and 2 adults. Mary and <br />Patty were able Co find homes far all of the�. They will be departing on Sunday, <br />August 18. We are hoping everything goes well. <br />6. Costa Rica: Contact has been with �oth Eduardo and Ivonne. Eduardo is now <br />the president of their Ass. There are several people in the community inter- <br />ested in various activiries. They include obtain�ng a compu�er for adm. work <br />and some sewing machines for the Community Group of the Los Angeles Neighbor. <br />(We are not sure of the exact name due to translation problems.) Jim wi11 <br />look into obta�nzng a computer. As usual, our biggest problem will be getting <br />items to them. <br />They also want ta find a vocational program ior their students to gain skills <br />and improve their English in such areas as �ourism, computer programing, <br />electzonics, criminology, secretariat skills, business administration, and <br />dental mechanics. Their currently have some programs in Barrie, Ontario; how- <br />ever, i[ is very expensive to travel there. Joyce ��1i look into some of the <br />.local Juniar Colleges. <br />7. Other: Joyce wil get another article zn the newspaper. Also, the Visitor <br />Center has moved, but we do not know where. <br />8.
