City of Roseville <br />Roseville Sister Citv Association <br />Minutes <br />February 4, 1998 <br />Present: Jvyce and James Boardson, Reiko Masterson, Tom and Virginia Turba. <br />Minutes: <br />1. AcCion items: Martha was not available to update on display item tags. <br />2. Treasurer's report: Carol was not avai�able for report. Joyce has re- <br />ceived 35 lhs. candy donation from Mr. and Mrs. Terrance Waldoch through <br />the Fritz Candy Co. to be used at the Rosefest Parade. Joyce also turned <br />in a re�eipt for $242.02 for expenses occurred with the Rosefest parade. <br />This included donatfon of a Japanese flag, as we1Z as cost of costumes. <br />3. Shinmachi report: No one from the Shinmachi group was available. Reiko <br />announced that there will be Japanese dancing at the "Spring Festival" at <br />University of St. Thomas on April 26. 5he was not sure of the start time. <br />3. Costa Rica report: The trip to C.R. for �he Presidential elections went <br />extremely well. (Jan. 25-Feb. 9) The entire group stayed in homes ins�ead of <br />hatels. There were approximately 40 �rom Mn., 7 from Roseville. The trip <br />included breakfast with the President. <br />There will be a group of 15 Costa Ricans, including Yvonne, coming to St. <br />Cloud in April as part of a Masters program in C.R. Six of the group <br />would like to spend some time in Rosevxl�e. <br />Tom visited with Eduardo Cruz. The Cartargo Athleti� Ass. would 11ke �o <br />have the Rosevflle basketvall coach go to C.R. Co teach for 2 weeks. There <br />is a possibility that the Costa Rica-Minn. Foundation would help sponsor <br />the exchange. The Association is also interested in swimming. <br />4. Community Activities: The Rosefest Parade W�ii soon be upon us. Last years <br />parade activity was reviewed. Hopefully, we will not have to borrow cost- <br />umes from the C.R. consulate. We will try to plan ahead and have pop avail- <br />able for participants at the starting iine. (A last minute thonght last y�ar <br />by Jim.) Jugs of water will be available, also, as last year. Consideration <br />was given to possibly having a party after for participants. To he discussed <br />further as next meeting. <br />5. Ongoing business: Martha was not available, nor pictures brought for discuss- <br />ian on our planned scrapbook. Fund raising not discussed as result. <br />b. New business: The committee would like to welcome Reiko Masterson. She is <br />from Gifu Prefecture, Japan. 5he resides in Roseville with her husband and <br />is active with a Japanese dance group, as weZl as assisting with the Japan- <br />ese participants of the U.S.A. Soccer Cup. She would like to be envolved <br />with our Japanese group. <br />Joyce and James presented the Committee with a U.S. and Costa Rican flag, <br />along with flag parade belts.
