City of Roseville <br />Roseville Sister Citv Associa�ion <br />Wednesday, July 2, 1997 <br />Present: Joyce Boardson, Martha HardesCy, Tom and Virginia Turba <br />Minutes: <br />1. Friendship meeting with Tony Anderson: Various e�periences were exchanged <br />between Owatonna, Northfield, Richfield, and Roseville. Northfield receives <br />$100 per person going to Costa Rica to put in their "k�tty" for future needs <br />in Northfield. The Costa Rica - Minn. Foundation may have monies availab�e <br />as a grant ii needs can be identified and a proposal identi£ied. Tom wiZl <br />call Lupita for an application form. Ideas to submit were monies for a <br />Spanish �anguage tape tio donate to the Roseville Library, tapes an Costa <br />Rica which could be donated, also, and payment for the Tico Times for the <br />library. <br />2. Rosevilie Community Fund: We have received $2000.00 for Costia Rican activities <br />and $500.00 for 5hinmachi activities Chrough the Roseville Co[nmunity Fund. <br />For Costa Rica, $1500.00 will be used for the students going down in July and <br />$500.00 will be used for the Januar.y arrivals. Shinmachi will use the mvney <br />for their group arriving this August. <br />3. Rosefest Parade: We did it!!! Our efforts to be in the parade this year <br />appeared to have gone well. Martha did a great job on the banner and hopes to <br />be able to use it next year. If any one has suggestions on changes to make, <br />please let Martha, Joyce, or Tom know. Joyce will send thanks-yous to the <br />volunteers. <br />4. Treasure's report: no report <br />5. Shinmachi: The Japanese will be arriving ane day early, Aug. 4. Joyce expzess- <br />ed a concern that if the group stays in a hotel the first night as they have <br />in the past, we should be using a Roseville horel since we are a Roseville <br />association and derive financial support from the Roseville community. The <br />Japanese-American Society expzessed an interest in contacting us when Joyce <br />called them abouY borrowing a flag. Caro1 and Jan's names were given for <br />contacts. <br />6. CosCa Rica: Sept. 19 is the C.R.-MN. Fund Razsex. We will look into receiv- <br />ing a grant from the Foundation. Students and Ceacners will be leaving this <br />month for C.R. We hope to have news coverage when they return. Don't �orget <br />the trip Jan. 26 - Feb. "L for the C_R. election celebrations. Tom �ontacted <br />Mark Heckel at Roseville High. He is one of ewo co-chairs for the MN. committe <br />with the National 5tudent Council convention to be held in MN. June, 1999. <br />Mr. Heckel will present our interest in having Oscar Arias speak. <br />7. Community Activities: The display case at city hall will be availab�e in <br />2- 3 weeks. We may be able to get our tri-fold brochures printed by City <br />Hall. <br />
